Mistress Marilyn's POV
No shit, Tempus Fugit!
We're at ORYCON!

Kirk--No Bla-Bla
Jess and I are in the hospitality room using the computers there. She just set up an LJ so she could do a search of a community that's having a party here later. Charlie's taking a nap or some such thing. We went to a couple panels and had to walk out of one. And Jess got an autograph and had her photo taken with Peter S. Beagle who wrote The Last Unicorn.

I went to an interesting little discussion of intolerance in fandom. Sheesh, I could write a book. Nonetheless, I'm wearing an "I Heart Mpreg" button and a "Slash Writer" button.

Eric and Tony sat on a panel dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Next Gen. We didn't get a chance to talk to them, but maybe we'll hook up later. Charlie called Eric's room and left my cell phone #.

In a little while we're going to a Goth workshop with makeovers.

On the tennis front, Roger *did* make the finals. So, all's right with the world.

It was fun. Fun, but sort of weird. I'm still lukewarm on the hotel choice. It just doesn't allow for the people-watching the old hotel did. We didn't end up even speaking to our longtime friends who were presenting a couple panels. I guess they've gotten too 'big' for us.

My! Fun activities to boot! I'm a bit envious!!!!
My curiosity is up...why did you walk out?

...why did you walk out?

It was a lousy panel. The people sitting on it didn't even try to stick to the subject. The main person speaking was a very poor speaker -- and lacking in anything insightful to share. It was amazing we stayed as long as we did, frankly.

I'm not sure why the moderator of the panel didn't have more control, but I guess that happens a lot at Orycon. We don't usually attend much programming, to tell the truth.

I can't believe I never saw this entry of Marilyn's before today! It just shows how little I get to LJ anymore. (sigh)

You'd probably enjoy Orycon. There's a great mix of ages here, for one thing (and lots of people over 50). Most people are friendly and accepting and there's tons to do. Fun, fun!

Maybe you'll have to visit during Orycon some year... (smile)

Ummm! I'm eager for a bit of new fun! Who knows? Thanks for the invitation - I'll see about taking you up on it when the dust settles from this year. I honestly think I would enjoy meeting you and your perpetual fun and happy friends. :o)

We haven't met an on line friend in quite some time. It would be lovely! Of course, November isn't the best time of year in Portland for sightseeing. Summer is much better.
27th-Nov-2007 06:34 pm (UTC) - snail's pace
Thanks! I'm not such a fast mover. It would be in the springtime, most likely late spring. Partly depends on my distant cousin's situation, whom I want to visit as well.
I've only met two cyber friends in my life.
27th-Nov-2007 06:44 pm (UTC) - hee, hee!
You never know....I may surprise you someday and attend (smile)!
Of course, I'd expect you to show me around a bit.
I'm very green around the gills (gulp, gullp!) ~~~ as most wide-eyed guppies are in a sea of story tellers.

The panel discussion was 'Life After Harry Potter,' but it had very little to do with Harry Potter. This one guy just droned on, and much of the talk was about how Harry Potter had gotten kids to read more, and we didn't feel we were there to talk about kids. We wanted to hear about what the adults were going to do, or about how Harry Potter might go on in other mediums or something. Anyway, it was the worst of the panels I went to, and I went to more than I ever have. Most of them had something of value.

I can't believe I never saw this until today!

You never told me you posted to LJ from Orycon!!! Very cool.

Weird how Eric and Tony (Anthony???) decided not to connect with us, huh? Oh well...

I loved that Goth makeover panel. Really the best one we attended.

Anyway, I'm so glad we went this year. It was a blast!

Yeah, I did tell you, but it was during all the craziness of ORYCON, so you obviously didn't hear me. It's funny that even with cell phones, communication at ORYCON hasn't improved much. I don't think I *ever* reached you on your phone, for instance. Yes, I loved the Goth panel, but I also enjoyed the one I went to on politics and even the discussion about tolerance in fandom. It was weird to go to so many panels.

I still don't like the hotel much, but I think we could have had more fun if we'd been feeling a little better. It was decidedly weird not to even speak to Eric and Tony. But, whatev.
