So, I loved this blog from FOXSports.com by Kansas City Star columnist Jason Whitlock about NBC's handling of the 'live' coverage from the Olympics. He tells it like it is about the not-unrealistic expectations of the American public to get their news when it happens, even if it's news about who's winning in Beijing.

He describes a friend listening to the swimming play-by-play on the radio. I can identify with that. And I think it's as ridiculous as he does.

Yes, the marquee offerings should have been offered live on the website, at the very least, instead of hoarded for primetime viewing. On the other hand, the ginormous ratings NBC is garnering for the Olympics is hardly incentive to do a better job in providing us live action happening in a time zone 15 hours away.

I hope he's right that this is the last tape delayed Olympics. But until NBC manages to get us live Wimbledon semi-finals, I won't believe it.

Thanks for sharing the link to that blog -- I was so impressed I even TRIED to make an f-ing MSN (and then Fox) account to use to comment. (For all the good that did me. Speaking of annoying behavior, MSN can bite me!)

It's totally the DARK AGES when we have to deal with taped delays -- and finding out Olympic results via radio. Or the internet -- if f-ing NBC will LET US do that, of course! The very idea that ANYONE can suppress info on the internet makes me CRAZY.

I await the day when we can turn on TV and PICK the Olympics we want to watch. God, I hope it happens in my lifetime!
