A novel in a month?

Well, far_mountain has me actually considering taking the NaNoWriMo challenge and going for the 50,000 words in November. After all, I'll have a lot more time in November. And I always respond well to a challenge and to discipline. Maybe this is just what my writing needs. Maybe I'll actually write more fanfic if I take this on, not less. Certainly in December it should seem easy to write fanfic after taking on the challenge.

I haven't made my mind up for sure. But I need to decide p.d.q.

(Watched this old b&w movie, 'The Leopard Man,' from back in the day when it was considered terrifying *not* to show the murder. I remembered one of the evocative scenes from when I was a kid, but nothing else. Then, of course, I fell asleep before the end. I guess I wasn't exactly riveted, but I found the movie very interesting. If I take on the challenge, writing will take the place of watching t.v.!)

I've been thinking about doing the NaNoWriMo challenge too, but I'm not sure I could pull it off. But then again, I always love setting goals and seeing if I can actually make it within the allotted amount of time - even if I'm not very good at it.

I'll bet you could do it. But it might be a bitch if you have schoolwork, too.

Yeah, that's probably the only thing holding me back. I don't want to commit myself to writing and then not be able to do it because of stupid college stuff. That would just depress me.

Wow. Go for it! That's quite ambitious, but I bet it would be a wonderful exercise.

Let us know, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Thanks, Kit. I think both Charlie and I are going to do it.

I admire NaNoWriMo attempts in a big way. But even an overachiever like myself finds the thought daunting. That's a scary prospect. IF you do it, I'll cheer you on like mad. (I could never consider it unless I quit the post office first - between the need for time to write that many words PER DAY and the fact that November/December=no life at home for postal workers, it's not a possibility at all! Plus I'd be terrified.)

P.S. Go, MM, GO! We want to KNOW! What would you write? IF you join this fight? Yay! MistressMarilyn. (Okay, sucky cheer. There was a reason I wasn't a varsity cheerleader.)

23rd-Oct-2005 07:02 am (UTC)
Well, I never made cheerleader either, but I did try out. (I always tried out for everything!)

I guess that same attitude makes me want to do this. Why not give it a try? I think I'll write about some crazy chick who does special events for a living. The characters and situations are wild, and at least it would be funny.

I think both Charlie and I are gonna give it a try. And I'll need all the supportive thoughts I can get, that's for sure!

Hey, by any chance do you Yahoo!Messenger? If so, please feel free to add me... *bats eyes hopefully*

I never have (don't even know how, actually).

Do you know you just gave me my 500th comment?!!!!! Wow!

Oooo! A first time for me. (Didn't think THAT would ever happen again.) *giggles* Congratulations.

Oh, yay!

A playmate!

And remember the NaNoWriMo motto - "No plot? No problem." I'm taking full advantage of it, too.

I don't know that I'll be able to stay on goal. But I'll go as long as I can and I figure whatever I write won't go to waste. I'll just redirect as much of it as I can toward writing drabbles or other fanfic.

After all, it was writing drabbles that gave me the confidence to try NaNo.

I hope you'll join in the fun!

Well, I'll give you a nudge now and then if you'll do the same for me. We can at least share word counts with each other and see how we're doing.

It can't hurt. All we can do is try. (That's what I love about writing.)
23rd-Oct-2005 08:58 pm (UTC)
Okay, I joined up! Let me know the name you're using at NaNoWriMo, and we can be Friends there and keep up with each other's progress (if you want to).
23rd-Oct-2005 10:33 pm (UTC)
Woohoo!

I see you found me. I found and friended you at NaNo too.

It's great to have a writing buddy! It'll keep me honest and give me inspiration.

Now I'm getting excited!
