Yes, I work for a nonprofit, so I know what it's like to constantly need $$. I understand Barack Obama needs money, which is why I sent him some. I know NaNoWriMo needs money to keep going, which is why I sent them some. If I believe in something, I support if financially, like trying to help retire our new mayor's campaign debt and supporting our own auction.
I still have the envelope from the Rescue Mission asking to help buy Thanksgiving dinner for some of their clients sitting in the kitchen ...
And when my cousin, who lives on the fringe of society, calls to ask for money, what am I going to say?
Sure, the oil company wants its $550, and I've got to pay that. But I feel just as strong an obligation to all these other things, especially in a time when so many people are losing their jobs and their homes.
I always remind myself that if I can spend time and $$ on my Halloween costume, I can certainly spend it on a few of my favorite causes. But speaking of the oil bill, I'd better get that check in the mail!
cause that would be funny :)

You bought lunch for all of us (Phooty, Gary and me) yesterday, which I found so generous of you.
And you always donate to causes you care about.
And I knew you'd give Linda the 'loan' of $30, no matter how she ends up spending it.
You're truly the most generous person I know -- and you do it in spite of not having a ton of $$$ (and in spite of worrying about paying the bills). I'm so proud of you. I truly am.
I guess we're lucky that you can manage to afford these things, in spite of hard times.
(hugs)
Thanks for being 'you'!
