Rafa just won his second Wimbledon title. Hard to believe that three years ago I felt like one of the only people who believed he could do it, including himself. And he came so close that year, too.
And considering just a week ago it looked like he was toast, this is a GREAT result!
Overall, it was a fascinating tourney, with lots of firsts. The wacky Mahut/Isner match, the Queen, the first time under the lights in Centre Court . . . and no rain for a fortnight. Serena was powerful and relentless the entire time, and she deserved to win yesterday. It almost seemed like there wasn't another woman worth mentioning.
Sue stayed overnight, and Charlie made us coffee and toast while we watched. The sun has actually come out here, enough to make it difficult to watch in the living room, since we have a wall of windows up there. Now I'm down in the family room typing on my laptop. Had to Facebook the win and figured I should post here, too.
I hope all my flisters are having a great day. Happy 4th to you Americans out there. It's one of my favorite days of the year, and Rafa's win makes it even better. One of the great things about this country is that we can enjoy the achievements of others around the world, because, after all, we're a melting pot of all cultures. And today we're a little bit Spanish, at least around my house.
