Just hours away . . .

The big day is here.

Agassi vs. Nadal!

The fans are the winners, regardless of the outcome. And I can't choose. If Andre has to lose (and eventually he does), I wouldn't mind having him lose to the Number 2 player in the world (and someone who will eventually be as great as Bjorn Borg, in my opinion). And Nadal's comeback on Thursday was nothing short of amazing. He's learning more about playing on grass every day.

I just can't wait!

Thanks, Radio Wimbledon . . .

So, I'm listening to the Agassi/Nadal match on Radio Wimbledon from the website. That because ESPN2 can't even mention the Agassi match (which belongs to NBC first, of course). NBC's coverage doesn't even start here for an hour and a half.

Anyway, Nadal is winning, up two sets to love. And Agassi's behind on his current service game, so he's in trouble. (Break point.) I'm watching Pointtracker to see the rallys.

Wild! I remember the days when there was little or no way to follow Wimbledon tennis here on the west coast. We learned Connors lost to Ashe when we got the newspaper! That was 1975, so it's been more than 30 years. I guess I can let that go. I remember listening to the 1980 final between Borg and McEnroe on the radio. I was lying on my back on the sofa in my parents' house. That classic fourth set tie-break just about killed me.

Agassi held serve that time. But it sounds like the handwriting is on the wall . . .

ETA: Uh oh. Agassi has a couple break points against him again.

He was just broken. Guess Andre's time on Centre Court is about to come to an end. (Too bad he couldn't have put up more of a fight.)
