Star Wars Weekend~
28th-Nov-2010 11:59 pm
alfred hand-on-face
Been hanging out, doing very little, watching some of the old Star Wars movies on Spike. Despite the annoying commercials, it's been fun. The originals still hold up, although they don't have Ewan as Obi-Wan or Liam as Qui-Gon or Hayden as Anakin . . . maybe that's why I spent more time on the newer trilogy, hehe.

I'm still enjoying The Walking Dead, but it's not nearly as compelling. I guess we can't expect every episode to have the same intensity as the first two. Whew. But it's easy to get annoyed at the human drama. We need these characters to pull together . . . and I need fewer looong, lingering closeups of people saying goodbye to their soon-to-be-zombie loved ones.

I got three votes for and one against this Challenge in my Last Author Standing community. This was another Jacob-centric story, which has turned out to be my favorite subject matter, surprisingly enough. It's hard to believe I've now been participating for more than three months, and there's really no end in sight. I'd say there are at least two or three Challenges to go (I always want to call them Rounds, as opposed to Challenges). I pretty much know the top writers by now, even recognizing their work. I could make a prediction on who's going to win, but I won't.

I hope all my American friends had a fabulous Thanksgiving, and I hope everyone else is staying warm and healthy. I have to say I'm looking forward to the end of 2010. Overall it's been a pretty sucky year.

One AGAINST??? WTF??? I'm shocked you'd get ANY against. These people clearly don't know good writing when they read it. (sigh)

I'm glad you've done it, though -- you've written soooo many good Twilight fics! And I LOVE your Jacob stuff, personally. You have a great take on him.

Yeah, pretty much The Walking Dead just bugs now. I wish they had some teamwork happening! I don't get it. (And that family just leaves and they don't care -- and I can't help feel there was bigotry involved...)

Plus set some rules. This is life and death here. What gives?

Loving watching all of the Star Wars movies, but it's interesting that I agree with you. I know many fans only like the first three movies, but I like them all -- and love many things about the newer ones...

We have seen a LOT of TV and movies this past week. It's been fun!

Hey, I got three votes FOR, so that's a good result.
We'll see what the vote against says.

I've enjoyed the competition, and I've done a *lot* more reading and feedbacking, which is good practice for me as an editor.

Yikes, I'm glad to be going back to work.

I am SO glad you are enjoying it :)

I hope you'll think about joining next round too :)

Here is to next year being better!

And good job on the last round of writing :)

Thanks, dear!!

I hope you enjoyed the down time, but sorry to hear you both were not feeling real good. I had a lot of fun in North Bend, but no good cards. Dot made the only money of our group of three.

Saw lots of friends and visited a lot with Larry Hasset. The room that Mills gave us with one free night was very nice so for two nights it was only $20 each.

Another cribbage person died on Thanksgiving day, but he wasn't one of my close friends.

I am going out to Arch Fitters today to get my new shoes and have some nice ham to give you, so will call later.

I'm actually glad to be getting back to work. I hate being sick and I don't like vacation much, so . . .

Hey...what voting? I wanna vote! Anything regarding Jacob is a plus! He's darling!

I loved the newer Star Wars too - Hayden is so wickedly hot. Hee-hee!

Hugs!
*Imperial March music...YES!

I'll send you the link next time so you can vote. It's all anonymous, so it's perfectly fair. They always need folks to vote, but voting isn't just choosing your fave. You have to choose both the best and worst written stories and give good reasons. It's kinda cool, because the feedback ends up getting sent to the authors, all anonymously. The moderator does a TON of work in these communities.

In fact, you should participate in the next round! It will probably end up being early next year when it starts--maybe February.

Yeah, I always wanted Darth Vader to turn out to be hot. One of my favorite things Lucas did is insert Hayden's Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi.

I love SW, all 6 films.
I want an LAS for Star Wars.

I got one for and two against, so I got a feeling I won't be winning. I always end up in the middle. Either the votes go both ways or I get no votes at all.
Still, I like the challenge and won't give up.

Your piece was really good. I loved the Jacob angst.

I'd write some Star Wars. It might be fun. I haven't written much of it ever.

I'd be curious about those votes against; I'm not sure what fault anyone could find with your story. Seems like it's harder and harder to vote against any of them. I thought three were strong and only one was less strong this time. I loved yours, of course, since I love the historical stuff. Even the title rocked. (I *LOVE* titles!!)

I'm really stumped over the new prompt. It's going to challenge me; I hope I get some sudden inspiration!

It's the only other fandom I write for. And I should return to it asap. That's why I didn't sign up for LAS Round 2.

I am curious too. LOL. I know it is not persona; but what did they not like?
It is getting harder and harder.

You guys are killing me!

I am already opening 8 new ones and people keep trying to poke me into making a Star Wars, Fanvid, Poetry, etc :)

(The list of suggested LAS' got long all of a sudden - lol)
2nd-Dec-2010 01:17 am (UTC)
I'm sorry! *cries*

How do you do it and keep it all straight? I am amazed. There must be around 20 LAS coms now.

2nd-Dec-2010 01:21 am (UTC)
LOL

Once they are all up and running -- 23 actually.

Plus all the suggested ones that some look REALLY tempting, lol.

My only regret is I haven't ever figured out a way so I can participate as well, lol.

LOL!! I have excel spreadsheets with lists of email addresses/usernames/skips/story titles/FOR votes/AGAINST votes/TOTAL votes, and then if they skipped/entered every challenge --- all of this for EVERY comm :)

Then I have another excel spreadsheet with the # of points everyone has for voting.

Then I have various folders in my private email set up with rules so the different types of emails go directly into it :)

Oh yeaa. That would be difficult. You probably could participate, like mods do in icontest communities. You probably just can't vote.
Or it might just make things more complicated.

WOW that AMAZING. Nice and organized.
2nd-Dec-2010 01:38 am (UTC)
You probably just can't vote.

Well, it's possible to vote because I'd have no idea how others are going to vote and of course, just like other writers, I couldn't vote for myself :)

I rarely vote anyway, even I were to participate, because unless I am STRONGLY moved by a piece I feel its unfair to vote *shrugs*

If I were ever to participate, I'd probably make an alias LJ account not connected to my own to lessen any flack, so to speak.

WOW that AMAZING. Nice and organized.

LOL, you should have seen the way I ran them to begin with when I first started whoverse_las and trueblood_las (the first two I ever had) -- a total mess and the process of everything took me an extra 1-3 hrs, lol.

Oh. So you don't look at the votes till it is time to tally them?

- a total mess and the process of everything took me an extra 1-3 hrs, lol.
OMG What a headache.

Oh. So you don't look at the votes till it is time to tally them?

Sometimes I don't. Other times I go as far as reading over the reasons to make sure there are no invalid ones (if so, I reply so they know to change/add/whatever the votes) and write down who voted (for the points spreadsheet) but I never really read the titles of what they are voting FOR or AGAINST and even when I do --- I run 23 comms --- can you imagine me actually REMEMBERING what they were like 10 minutes after reading it? LOL. Besides, I'd NEVER cheat like that (or any other way obviously) :)

OMG What a headache.

OMG! You have NO idea. It was HORRIBLE but over the months (it's been almost 6 months now... 7 if you add the time there was sign-ups for before the first comm's first round EVER started) I've "live and learned" and changed the way I do things, become a hellva lot more organized and such :) Always finding new and easier ways to do things which is good :)

Like making the lasupdates comm has helped A LOT! Less pages to keep up with (like 1 sign up for form PER comm, 1 questions form PER comm, 1 skips request form PER comm, ETC) and now it's all in one place and together.

:) Makes things SO much easier!

No.

Heck, I forget the title of the ones I voted for 10 minutes after I voted. LOL

It is all trial and error. :)

and ... HOLY CRAP! I just got a HUGE email with LAS suggestions someone wanted added that I just added to the LAS suggestion page .. wow, it's big - LOL! with some interesting ideas .... I wonder what people will think of them.
2nd-Dec-2010 04:50 am (UTC)
LOL, I'll take a look.
