Just sitting enjoying a Chelada (Bud Light and Clamato, mmmmm!) to celebrate my win at Twilight_LAS. Charlie saw the posting in the middle of the night, and she's the one who told me. A rare and unexpected result for me, icing on the cake of a rich and enjoyable experience overall.
I have to congratulate wrldpossibility
for the great job she did in the competition, winning several of the Challenges. It was an honor to write with her.
(Wait 'til Angel hears about my win! I actually 'interviewed' him last week about what it was like for a kid in Brooklyn to play Cowboys & Indians, and he gave me some good ideas that I ended up using. Not surprisingly, the subject matter was inspired by having spent several days finishing my 3:10 to Yuma story.)
Tomorrow morning is Executive Committee, and I have to give a report on one of our programs (which I haven't prepared, of course). Folks are gonna be down about U of O's loss in Arizona. The board president's license plate reads, "DUKMOM"! Actually the game was probably closer than she expected.
Today we went to Liza's husband's memorial service at Willamette National Cemetery. It was freezing cold, but beautiful up on Mt. Scott. Liza was really struggling, but she held it together. Overall, it was heartbreaking to watch. Our organization had a good turnout to support her.
I found out today we missed the memorial service of our 1935 princess who passed away during the holidays. She went to my high school and attended my childhood church, and she donated her Depression-era dress during our Centennial celebration. I feel terrible not to have been there, but I've got to let it go. I need to find an address where I can write to her son.
So far 2011 has definitely been a mixed bag . . .
