I've told myself I'm going to try to keep this journal going, so I just paid for a year. It's been nearly 18 months since I posted anything! I just spent an hour updating my profile page, because it was so out-of-date. When I had surgery last summer, I wanted to start keeping a journal again, but instead turned (back) to fanfic -- and I'm glad I did.
I'm so happy to be writing again. It feels wonderful, even though 2005 has been pretty dry compared to the latter part of 2004. Getting ready for the Big Birthday in Vegas really obsessed me and set me back, but things are settling down, even though events season is officially here.
Today was our first-ever duathlon. It was humbling to stand and watch nearly 500 people enjoying something that was my own conception. I've come up with events before -- some successes, some busts. And I coordinate one of the world's top parades. But the parade's been around for nearly 100 years, and the duathlon is brand new. And there they were, top athletes and weekend warriors alike, all straining to accomplish something I doubt I could ever do -- run two 5ks and bike 25 miles.
The weather held, but it was bitter cold in the park. My arms still feel heavy and my legs are stiff, just from standing and walking. It's raining now. All I can do is smile bitterly at the weather forecasters who were predicting the 70s for this weekend. Screw 'em. I'd be fired once a week if I were as incompetent at my job as they are. Why do we even bother to listen? And yet I can't stop listening this time of year.
Tomorrow is the start of a week that includes Coronation judging and oral surgery. On Thursday I hope to see Hector sworn in as a U.S. citizen -- and then I'll go have an apecoectomy. A couple weeks ago two dentists tried to do a root canal on my front tooth, and now it's oral surgery or else.
I haven't gotten on the treadmill for a month, and I'm starting to backslide. I won't let that happen after three months of intense training.
It's already May 22! May 22 was my mom's birthday. It's hard to believe she's been dead five years!
We should go see 'Revenge of the Sith' today. But I'd almost rather see 'Kingdom of Heaven' again. The latter will be gone a lot quicker than 'Revenge'! And we started three fanfic lists for 'KoH' last weekened. I need to come up with an mpreg story in that genre.
Speaking of mpreg, I finally let Lancelot have his baby in 'Fecund Knight'! I may be only a chapter away from finishing! Now if only I'd finish 'Paris' Confinement.' Then maybe I could get back to poor Hector in 'The Vessel.' (Note to self: One-of-ones are a good thing in fanfic.)
But nothing beats the accomplishment of finally finishing 'Fisherman's Excuse,' my Colin Farrel slash adventure on the Titanic! That took months, but it turned out very satisfying.
Thanks to all my dear friends who have been making me icons. I love you all.
Time to hit the update key -- here goes nothin'!
